Crystal Palace’s freshest recruit has hailed the attacking flair at Selhurst Park and is ready to cash in on the plethora of chances his new team-mates will provide.
Kevin Phillips, signed on loan from Blackpool until the end of the season, took his Palace bow in Saturday’s 2-1 Championship win over Charlton Athletic.
The 39-year-old is credited with turning the game around after coming on as a substitute with his new employers 1-0 down – Glenn Murray benefitted most helping himself to his 24th and 25th goals of the season.
Phillips, who says he will retire at the end of the season, has now made more than 600 appearances for nine different clubs.
The former England international has 283 goals to his name since pulling on his boots in 1992, and he is ready to add to that tally and propel the Eagles into the Premier League.
“The attacking options here do excite me, that was one of the reasons I went to Blackpool,” Phillips said.
“When you looked at Blackpool’s attacking style of play, they created tons of chances when they were in the Premier League and last season.
“When you look at [Wilfried] Zaha and [Yannick] Bolasie, [Stephen] Dobbie, [Jonathan] Williams and Murray, there’s going to be chances.”
He added: “Being Blackpool’s top goal-scorer last year, while touching 38 years of age, and scoring 17 in this league, which is a tough league, I believe I can score goals.
“I came close a couple of times against Charlton. Ian knows what I can do and if I’m used right then I’ll certainly and hopefully reward him.”
