(5) Watson hitting the post at Bristol City

- In 2008 Neil Warnock took Palace to the play-offs after a remarkable run that reminded fans of 2004 under Dowie. Sadly Palace did their best to throw it away over two legs against Bristol City, conceding a late goal in the first leg at Selhurst Park and then seeing Ben Watson's 72nd minute penalty, that could have clinched a final spot, rebound off the foot of the post. City went on to score twice in extra time.

(4) John Bostock

- There had been so much hype around this young prospect before he made his debut against Watford in 2007, becoming the youngest ever Palace player. Sadly, the hype got to him and his dad and he left for Spurs at the end of the season for next to nothing leaving a very sour taste in everyone's mouth. Instead of becoming a Palace legend, he will now no doubt be booed every time he gets anywhere near Selhurst Park.

3) Dowie to Charlton, Bruce to Birmingham

- It's hard to understand when managers turn their backs on clubs, not least with Iain Dowie and Steve Bruce. Dowie had arguably his best period as a manager with Palace but the fallout after he left to go to Charlton is well documented and ended up in long drawn out high court battle. Bruce meanwhile had taken Palace to the top of the league at the start of the 2001/2002 season but left after just 18 games to join Birmingham City. He got them promoted while the Eagles slipped back down the league.

(2) Watford play off defeat

- More play-off heartache for Palace fans, this time the year after their relegation from the Premiership. So much optimism surrounded the club going into the first leg at home to Watford, but three second-half Hornets goals left many a grown man in tears. Fitz Hall's fight with Aidy Bothroyd in the second leg was kind of fun though.

(1) Relegation at Charlton

- There's no bitter feeling than having one of your biggest rivals send you down on the last day of the season. Jonathan Fortune's late header condemned the Eagles to just one season in the Premiership after it all looked so rosy with goals from Andrew Johnson and Dougie Freedman. West Brom's win against Portsmouth though confirmed Palace were heading back down to the Championship by a single point.
