Crystal Palace captain Mile Jedinak couldn’t fault the effort of his team-mates after victory over Liverpool.

The Aussie capped a memorable day for the hosts by smashing home an 81st minute free-kick to ensure the Eagles picked up their first league win in almost two months.

That lifted the club out of the relegation zone and up to 15th in the Premier League table, with Jedinak acknowledging it was a huge result for his side as they stopped the rot in impressive style.

The Eagles midfielder said: “It’s a massive three points.

“We’ve been under a little bit of pressure of late and we haven’t got the results we’ve wanted, although we’ve been in the game for large periods.

“Overall, everyone was on their game today - well organised, we played as a unit and we knew we had to play the percentages.

“I can’t praise the boys more for what they showed out there.

“It was a great effort.”

On his free-kick, the Palace skipper explained how he decided to take the opportunity from Dwight Gayle, who had originally planned to take the set piece.

Jedinak added: “I saw Dwight place the ball down and I said I felt like I wanted to take it.

“I hit it and lucky enough it went in.”

Jedinak also refuted suggestions boss Neil Warnock had lost the support of the players, as had been claimed by some newspapers before the Liverpool demolition.

“I think you judge that yourself but you look out there and you can’t question anybody’s commitment to the cause.

“It’s been difficult for everybody in the last three or four weeks, not just the management but the players as well but you’ve just got to get on with it.

“It’s football, we know the nature of football but the result today I’m sure will lift everyone.

“It was a great team effort, from the management and players.”

The captain is also hopeful Yannick Bolasie can now push on after an impressive week by continuing his current form.

He said: “There’s a balance between Yannick terrorising down the left and Jason Puncheon doing a job on the right with his defensive duties.

“It’s been a great week for Yannick qualifying for the African Cup of Nations and coming here and getting a couple of assists.

“He’s had a week to remember and hopefully long may that continue.

“I think it’s difficult to leave but you’ve got the responsibility playing for your national team - and it’s a tournament obviously I’m going to be looking forward to.

“But until then it is business as usual and about trying to get as many wins on the board before you have to go.”
