Crystal Palace caretaker boss Keith Millen says he is ready to take his place in the Selhurst Park hot-seat in his own right.

Following the sacking of Neil Warnock last on Saturday, Millen presided over the 0-0 draw at QPR on Sunday that kept the Eagles in the bottom three of the Premier League.

It is the fourth time in three seasons that Millen has held the fort between managers, and he has watched over 10 games, losing four, winning three and drawing three.

But this time, the 48-year-old is keen to take the reins full-time ahead of the New Year's Day trip to Aston Villa.

He said: "I'm ready for it. The players respect me. I've done it enough times.

"It's about respect. I respect the players and what they're about and hopefully they respect me for my knowledge and hard work with them.

"You do have to detach yourself from the players as a manager, but also with Premier League players you have to make sure they understand what you want from them."

He added: "I don't know how long I'll be in charge for. I have not been told I've got a chance and I haven't spoken to the chairman about myself."

Warnock was sacked after the 3-1 defeat to Southampton at Selhurst Park on Boxing Day marked 12 Premier League games and one win, scoring just 10 goals in that time.

Palace have won just three out of 19 games this season, and face a potential FA Cup banana skin on Sunday at non-League Dover Athletic.

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is the bookies favourite, ahead of Tony Popovic and Tim Sherwood, with Millen fourth.
