Alan Pardew hailed Crystal Palace's 2-1 win at Southampton on Saturday as the best result of the FA Cup third round.

Goals from Joel Ward and Wilfried Zaha secured the Eagles flight into the hat for the fourth round draw - due to take place on The One Show on BBC One tonight (Palace are ball number 21).

The result on the south coast marked a first win in four games in all competitions, and the first goals in the same period.

Pardew said: "Looking at the results I'd say we've had the best result of the FA Cup this weekend.

"We had to lean on our tenacity and our defensive capabilities a bit more than I would have liked."

He added: "I thought it was Joel Ward's best performance today. He just sprinted like he does for the first goal. That was his third goal this season from right back.

"This is what this team's about. We're difficult to score against with a good back four and goalkeeper. We can kill teams on the break. We have a great resilience. You look at our record of teams scoring an equaliser, we go on to win more than we lose."

Pardew is nonplussed about their potential opponents in the next round, although he admitted he would like home comforts.

He said: "We're looking for a home draw, we don't really care who. With the fans we've got it's going to be tough for anyone."
