Crystal Palace boss Frank de Boer has admitted defeat in his pursuit of Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho.
Sakho, who had a successful loan spell with the Eagles last season, is surplus to requirements at Anfield.
The France international fell out with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp last summer and hasn't played for the club in over a year.
He was a fans’ favourite at Selhurst Park, and a permeant return to London did look likely at one point.
But the Eagles have been put off by Liverpool’s £30m asking price.
De Boer said: “Everybody knows [Sakho] had a major impact last season and, when he’s available for us, I think that is a quality injection for the club.
“It is not like this now because he is much too expensive for the club.”
