Speroni confirms confidence has been fully restored at Crystal Palace
CRYSTAL Palace are up to the dizzy heights of 14th in the Premier League table and keeper Julian Speroni believes they now have the confidence to beat anyone.
The Eagles are five points clear of the relegation zone after Jason Puncheon’s 16th minute goal secured a 1-0 win against Hull City at Selhurst Park.
This was Palace’s third victory in six games and leaves them just a point off the top 10 as their unrelenting ascent to safety since Tony Pulis’ appointment continues.
Speroni said: “We controlled the game, we went ahead and then we kept a clean sheet - this is the perfect performance for me.
“The whole team are working together.
“We defend as a team and we attack as a team.
“You cannot just rely on the back four and the goalkeeper, you need the whole team to work together and that is what we are doing at the moment.
“We go into every game knowing that we can win.”
Palace’s transformation since Pulis took control has been somewhat of a miracle and few could have imagined the Eagles would be up to 14th before the end of January.
Even Speroni himself admitted he had not expected to such a quick change of fortunes for the club, but he warned there is still a long way to go.
The keeper said: “Who would have thought two or three months ago we would be 14th now?
“We are very pleased but we haven’t done anything yet.
“We are on a good run and we are in a good position but there is a long way to go and we need to carry on what we are doing.
“We have a five point cushion but in this league it can disappear in two games, so you have to be on your toes.”
Pulis’ team now have the daunting task of facing Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday.
The Gunners have only lost once at home all season and beat Palace at Selhurst Park 2-0 shortly after Ian Holloway had quit.
However, Speroni is adamant Palace do not fear anyone in the league.
“We went to Manchester City and we could have won the game, and we went to Chelsea and had some good chances, so we will just put another good performance in and see what happens,” he said.
“Arsenal have been the top team this season and it is going to be difficult, especially playing at their ground.
“But these are the games we want to play and we need go there, forget where we are and focus on what we need to do.
“We are on a good run so anything can happen.
“The confidence is flowing through the team.”
