Brede Hangeland was delighted to score his first Premier League goal in three years after admitting the past two weeks have been a “rollercoaster”.

The Crystal Palace defender, signed from Fulham at the beginning of August, opened the scoring at the Emirates.

However, the afternoon would end in disappointment after goals from Laurent Koscielny and Aaron Ramsey saw Arsenal take all three points.

Reflecting on the 2-1 defeat, Hangeland said: “We played the way we wanted to play and everyone worked really hard.

"We tried to counter attack when we had the chance and we came very, very close to taking the points off one the top teams.

"We just need to improve on our defending from set plays."

He added: “It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster, and obviously there has been a lot of focus on the club in the last two weeks.

“It was a great feeling to score but obviously I would have swapped that for the points. It was nice to score a goal; it’s been a while since I last scored in the Premier League so it was a good start for me personally.

Despite the "rollercoaster", Hangeland remains focused on doing his best for the Eagles.

He said: “Keith has made a really big impression on me, he’s a really nice man who knows his football and he took charge of the team in a great way.

"Obviously it’s not up to me [if he is appointed permanently] but he did a good job.

“The most important thing is for footballers to keep working win or lose and what I’ve seen from this club that won’t be a problem.

"We will work really hard and prepare for the game next week."

He added: “You’re confident of putting in a good performance but you can never guarantee anything in this league, it’s always a real battle every game and that’s what makes it fun to watch. We’ll make sure we’re up for the game.

“It’s important to make the right appointment, who that is I have no clue, there’s people in charge of that process and we will have to give them the time to make that decision.”
