Julian Speroni was relieved to see Crystal Palace finally earn the victory he believes their recent performances have deserved on Sunday.

A 3-1 victory over Liverpool ended a five-match winless run for the Eagles and lifted the club out of the relegation zone.

The keeper said: “We were playing some good football and there were some good performances, but we just couldn’t get a result in last five games.

“Today everyone was pleased and happy because we got the result.

“We have been so unlucky, for some reason we couldn’t get results.

“Obviously it affects team a bit but the Liverpool result lifts people.

“Conceding a goal so early in the game is always so tough but the reaction was great.”

Speroni was talking about Rickie Lambert’s second minute opener, cancelled out quarter of an hour later after man of the match Yannick Bolasie’s drive hit the post and Dwight Gayle converted the rebound.

Despite Bolasie’s superb performance, and Mile Jedinak’s stunning free-kick which wrapped up the win, Speroni insisted the 3-1 victory was one orchestrated by a team performance.

“It’s been a great week for Yannick, for his country and us,” the Argentine stopper said.

“He had a great game today to help us out there. He played really well but overall I think it was a team performance.

“The whole team played really well today.

“It was an unbelievable free-kick, one of the best I’ve seen in a long, long time.”

The keeper, who has reached legendary status at Selhurst Park, was delighted with the raucous atmosphere conjured up once again by the Palace supporters.

Speroni added: “The fans were amazing, they’ve always been amazing.

“They were key last season for us and will be key for us again.”

Next up Palace travel to a Swansea side pulling up trees in the Premier League, and the keeper knows it is going to be a real battle in south Wales on Saturday.

“It will be another tough match, it’s not going be easy,” he insisted.

“They are a really good footballing team but we’ll prepare well this week and go there with a positive attitude.”

Speroni assured supporters morale in the dressing room was still high, despite the Eagles’ lack of recent success.

“It’s brilliant, it’s great. We never stop believing in ourselves.

“Sometimes losing games can affect you but we always knew we were performing and the team spirit was always there.

“Hopefully after today we can kick on.

“We just go out there and do our best, we’ve been so unlucky lately but today everybody deserved this victory.”
