LEVENTHORPE School, Sawbridgeworth, has been praised by Sport England, receiving a Sportsmark award in recognition of its commitment to physical education and sports provision.
The accolade is presented to schools that develop policies and practices for the provision of a well-balanced physical education programme, for developing an after-school programme that offers a range of opportunities for students and for enabling young people to move from school sport to sport in the community.
Headmaster Peter Janke said: "PE and sport has always had a high priority at Leventhorpe School and this award by Sport England acknowledges the wide range of activities and opportunities provided for our pupils.
"This comes as a result of a great deal of hard work and commitment by our PE and other staff who give up a considerable amount of time for the benefit of our youngsters. We firmly believe in the benefits of young people keeping active and fit and sport is a key building block to a healthy adult life."
