I AM appalled Toureast London has had maps printed and distributed promoting the name Eastside (News Shopper, June 11).

I am not an Eastsider. I am not even an East Ender. East Enders live in east London, not south east London. I am an Elthamian. I do not even come from south Greenwich. There is no such postal address. I come from Eltham and I am proud of that fact. Eltham is in the London borough of Greenwich.

We are not the 51st state of America yet and, with any luck, we never will be. If the Americans are so stupid they cannot follow a map of London, the West End or the East End, then they can stay away.

I suspect the people who devised this map and used the names to pander to American tourists — particularly those from New York where they have a west and east side — are not even Londoners themselves, let alone East Enders.

Let us not forget London is a much older city than New York and, if anything, New York should be producing maps for Londoners showing the west and east ends of New York.

So, come on, let us destroy these maps and produce some showing the real names we all use every day.
