HOUSING reforms needed to join the euro will have massive implications for St Albans, says Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Anne Main.
She believes Chancellor Gordon Brown's statement on the Euro orecently highlighted hidden threats of more housebuilding in the district.
As part of the five tests to join the euro, the Chancellor said there was a need for reform of the UK housing market to tackle instability.
Ms Main said: "These outline changes have worrying implications for the southern region as a whole and St Albans in particular.
"These reforms Mr Brown wants brought in over the next year will trigger sharp rises in house building in areas of high demand such as St Albans which may temporarily suppress prices at a huge cost to the area in the longer term. The phrase pushing a quart into a pint pot comes to mind."
