Palace winger gets England nod and a chance to shine on the full international stage
9:50am Monday 12th November 2012 in Crystal Palace By Andrew Bloss
Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha got the perfect birthday present after being called up to the full England squad.
The Eagles star celebrated his 20th birthday on Saturday, and played a vital role in Palace’s 2-1 win over Peterborough to reclaim top spot in the Championship.
Zaha got the call on Sunday and becomes the first outfield player from the Championship to be called up since Jay Bothroyd in 2010.
The winger, who has scored four times this season and has attracted Premier League interest with his trickery and frightening pace, got his chance after Wayne Rooney, Theo Walcott, Jonjo Shelvey, Kyle Walker and Aaron Lennon were ruled out through injury
The Palace winger has been capped at U19 level twice and U21 level five times.
He goes into the squad for Wednesday night's friendly against Sweden in Stockholm.
