SOUTHAMPTON 1 v 0 CRYSTAL PALACE

FULL TIME: Another defeat and that's six games without victory now, so much for going out with a bang this year. I must credit to Southampton though, they deserved that and their fans were excellent throughout. Next up is Derby next Saturday, see you then.

92 min: Carle's delivery cleared but Palace get another and Davis produces a superb one handed save from Kuqi at the back post and it's another corner...but it's cleared and there goes the whistle.

92 min: SUB: McGoldrick off, Liptak on as Palace win a corner...

90 min: Three minutes added on as Palace suddenly decide to press but McCarthy heads Clyne's cross wide, bringing a rousing round of applause from the home fans.

88 min: YELLOW CARD. Lawrence booked as he hauls Saganowski down by the neck.

85 min: Palace look to have given up and are letting Southampton play the ball around.

80 min: Cadogan handballs on the edge of the box, Wotton sends it over but Kuqi clears for a corner that Surman takes and after some pin ball Schneiderlin sends a flick header just wide.

77 min: SUB: Wright-Phillips off, Scheiderlin on.

76 min: SUB: Jose off, Hills on. He goes left wing and Stokes joins Kuqi in the middle as Palace go 4-4-2.

75 min: Southampton doing the pressing as they look for a second and Speroni produces a point blank save from Wright-Phillips but he is offside anyway.

70 min: If I'm honest I can't see Palace scoring here. They've created nothing and if they were to get something it will come through a lucky bounce or a mistake from Southampton.

67 min: GOAL! Southampton take the lead and it's McGoldrick who claims it with a stunning 20 yard strike. The forward was given time to run at the defence and without a challenge in sight he shot into the top corner. Speroni got a hand to it but it was too good for him.

65 min: SUB: Euell off, Saganowski on.

63 min: DOUBLE SUB: Moses and Rui off, Stokes and Cadogan on.

62 min: Hill and Wotton have a bit of handbags as Jose gives away a free kick midway intside the Palace half. Wotton delivers and Saeijs ghosts in unnoticed at the back post to put a free header over the bar. That was a chance.

59 min: Stokes getting ready for Palace.

56 min: Attendance 23,220

56 min: James fires in a cross to the near post that Euell gets to ahead of McCarthy but can only volley over, should have done better.

53 min: Southampton fans beginning to get onm their side's back now. They are playing well but too often the final cross or ball just isn't right.

49 min: Clyne gives the ball away upfield but gets back in time to clear with a back post header.

46 min: We're back under way, no changes from either side.

HALF TIME: Apart from a 10 minute spell Palace have been second best and should be behind but for super stops from a wounded Speroni and temporary stand in keeper Clint Hill. At least it's not dull.

45 min: Speroni earning his pay check today as some trickery from Watton sets up Lallana who in turn shimmies and curls one to the bottom left corner that looks destined for the net until Speroni appears from nowhere to claw it away. World class.

45 min: YELLOW CARD. Rui booked as he jumps into Skacel, leading with his elbow. The ref than has a chat with his linesman but nothing else given. That could easily have been a red though I don't think there was any malice from Rui.

45 min: Southampton should be ahead as Euell lobs a ball over the top for Wright-Phillips who outpaces McCarthy but Speroni produces a great save to deny him from eight yards. Warnock shows his appreciation with a round of applause. Four minutes added on.

44 min: Speroni is stitched up and back on and Palace survive their period with ten men.

42 min: Hill dives at McGoldrick's feet in the box as Palace fail to deal with a corner, super block.

39 min: Palace haven't brought anyone on so I guess they are hoping Speroni might be ok for the second half, perhaps he just needs stiches. Clyne is now at left back, Jose in the centre and Lawrence at right back.

36 min: Speroni is coming off holding his eye and, with no sub on the bench, Clint Hill is going in goal. Is there nothing this man cannot do.

35 min: Great double save from Speroni as Wright-Phillips twists past McCarthy and shoots for the bottom corner. Speroni palms it away and then dives at the feet of Surman to claim the ball, getting a kick in the face for his problems and there is some concern here that he cannot go on.

30 min: Palace send all the big men forward as Clyne wins a free kick on the half way line bu Lawrence puts it behind all of them and Southampton clear with ease.

28 min: Southampton back on top now as Lallana curls wide from 20 yards. Moses back on the field after treatment.

26 min: Moses is scythed down as he attempts to break but the ref doesn't blow and with the youngster holding his leg on the ground Southampton attack and Surman shoots just wide.

22 min: Southampton break again and this time Speroni is forced to save well from Wright-Phillips, palming the ball in to the air. Lallana gets their first and Lawrence clears off the line, only for the ref to blow for a foul by Lallana on Hill. Palace looked vulnerable then.

20 min: Time for a breather as the ref needs some treatment. Southampton just broke quickly from a Palace corner and despite Clyne and Speroni's best efforts not to deal with a long ball they eventually manage it.

18 min: Comley this time crosses for Kuqi whose volley is deflected over. Davis flaps at the corner but Palace can't take advantage.

16 min: Palace stepping up a gear as Rui sends Moses away and Perry is forced to produce a superb last ditch tackle and gives away a corner. Rui swings it in and there's a bit of pingball before the ref blows for a foul by McCarthy on Perry.

14 min: Half a chance for Palace as Kuqi puts Rui through with a delightful lob but the youngster choses to try and flick it over Davis rather than round him and gets it all wrong. The clearance comes to Comley who tries to shoot first time from 40 yards but gets that wrong too.

11 min: Kuqi has won quite a few headers so far but Rui and Moses aren't reading his flick ons and it's a bit obvious from Palace.

8 min: Palace not really involved in the game as yet. Carle needs to be using some of his experience out there today as the senior man in that midfield three.

3 min: Jose gives away a free kick 20 yards out but Saeijs puts it into the wall. 30 seconds later Euell almost puts McGoldrick through. Southampton have started strongly.

1 min: Palace get us off and under way and it looks like Jose alongside Comley in the middle of the park and Lawrence as centre half.

Just for the record once play begins I'll be calling the Fonte brothers Jose and Rui, so long as I remember.

The players are out and Clint Hill is again wearing the black armband he was sporting on Saturday which I guess is in memory of those who died at the Hillsbrough disaster 20 years ago. That makes an armband on each arm for him today, with the captain's one on his left bicep and the black one on his right.

I must say Southampton are whipping up one hell of a storm among their fans today and getting them behind the club. It's a super atmosphere in the brilliant sunshine on the coast.

I'm not sure exactly what Palace's formation is but I expect it to be 4-3-3 with either Lawrence or Jose Fonte in midfield alongside Comley and Carle with Moses and Rui Fonte wide of Kuqi upfront.

Palace: Julian Speroni, Nathaniel Clyne, Paddy McCarthy, Jose Fonte, Clint Hill (c), James Comley, Matt Lawrence, Nick Carle, Victor Moses, Rui Fonte, Shefki Kuqi. Subs: James Scowcroft, Lee Hills, Johnny Ertl, Kieron Cadogan, Anthony Stokes.

Southampton: Kelvin Davis (c), Rudi Skacel, Jan-Paul Saeijs, Chris Perry, Lloyd James, Paul Wotton, Adam Lallana, Andrew Surman, David McGoldrick, Bradley Wright-Phillips, Jason Euell. Subs: Tommy Forecast, Marek Saganowski, Morgan Schneiderlin, Ryan Smith, Zoltan Liptak.

Neil Warnock makes three changes to the side that lost to Cardiff on Saturday as the injured Shaun Derry drops out, as does Claude Davis and Anthony Stokes, who is on the bench. In come James Comley for his first senior start, Matt Lawrence and Jose Fonte.

Welcome to this afternoon's game at St Mary's, one that is vital for the home side in their battle to avoid relegation. For Palace there is nothing but pride on the match and the need to end a run of five games without victory.
