Crystal Palace co-chairman Steve Parish maybe worldly wise to the vagaries of Premier League football, but he can see a bright future at Selhurst Park.

Much of his confidence stems from the appointment of Alan Pardew, who he says has brought stability to the club.

Since Pardew took the reins, Palace have won four of seven top-flight games – including last weekend’s 3-1 win at West Ham United, featuring two goals for Glenn Murray and one for Scott Dann.

Murray was also sent off, meaning he missed Tuesday night's 1-0 defeat at Southampton.

However, do not suggest to Parish that, despite Saturday’s win lifting Palace eight points clear of the relegation places, the Eagles are safe.

Parish said: “I get worried when people say we’re safe – we’re not safe until we get maybe 38 points. It’s points on the board we need.

“In this league you can get on a good run, but then it is easy to get on a bad run. It is important we don’t get complacent and we pick points up, and if we do that I will start to get confident.”

He added: “I feel like we have stability, I feel like we have a manager who really wants to be at this football club and really wants to take it places.

“And together, with the board and how financially prudent we’ve been at the club, I am positive about the future. But I know all too well that football can turn around and bite you.”

Since winning promotion to the Premier League, Parish has presided over four managers – and he says that the appointment of Pardew was the first one over which he took his time.

However, there was an element of fortune as circumstances at Newcastle United meant Pardew was open to a move south.

Parish said: “It was probably a combination of what was happening at Palace and maybe things at Newcastle had run its course slightly.

“But I think he [Pardew] could see the ambition of the club, and it’s close to his heart because of the years he spent here – we knew it would galvanise everybody so I made a big effort to get him.”

He added: “It had to be right for both parties – I need a manager who really wants to be here.

“I had a little bit of time and get someone who was the right fit. We want to go places and it’s a notch up in terms of manager, really pleased to get him.”
