Crystal Palace boss Tony Pulis has admitted that the capture of Fraizer Campbell is all about goals.

Campbell put pen to paper on a three-year contract last week after Palace beat Leicester City to the striker’s signature.

Palace triggered a released clause in the former Cardiff City man’s contract, believed to be around £900,000.

Campbell has scored 44 goals in 123 first team appearances in a seven-year career than saw the 26-year-old spend time at Hull City and Sunderland.

It is that ratio of one goal in every three games that Pulis wants at Selhurst Park.

Speaking after the Eagles 1-0 win over Philadelphia Union last week, thanks to an own goal, Pulis said: “It’s a signing we’ve worked very hard to do over a period of time.

“I’m disappointed we’ve not been able to bring him out here [to America], but pleased that he’s signed.

“We need goals, as you saw against Philadelphia – we need people who can put the ball in the back of the net.”

He added: “We created a lot of chances today and needed an own goal to win the game, so we need to improve that.

“He’s got a good attitude and works hard. He’ll blend in well with the rest of the group because that’s what the group have got.”

Campbell told the club’s website: “I am delighted to sign on the dotted line and become a Crystal Palace player and now I am really looking forward to being part of this club and meeting the other lads.

"Last season this club made great progress, I remember the run of games without defeat and from when Tony Pulis came in he got the club moving up the league.

"Around Christmas looking in at this club it looked like Palace were dead and buried but the gaffer breathed some fresh life into the club and added to the squad to help the team push up to 11th."

He added: “This is a great opportunity for myself to, firstly, get back in the Premier League and also have the chance to be around a great manager and some fantastic players.

"The last couple of weeks have been frustrating for me but I can't wait to get started now in the red and blue of Crystal Palace."
