Goalkeeper Brad Friedel looks set for a place on the bench at least as he calls time on a lengthy career with Tottenham Hotspur’s trip to Everton on Sunday.

The American gloveman recently announced he would bring the curtain down on a 21-year professional career and seen him turn out with distinction for 18 years in the Premier League, having clocked the most consecutive appearances in the division’s history with 310.

Friedel, who turned 44 on May 18, will also become the oldest player in the league’s history if he features at Goodison Park.

And with regular backup Michel Vorm set to miss out with illness, the former Newcastle United, Liverpool, Blackburn Rovers and Aston Villa stopper is set to be named in Mauricio Pochettino’s matchday 18.

“Michel has been ill all week and we need to assess him tomorrow in our last training session,” Pochettino told the club website.

“It’s an unbelievable moment for Brad and great to share it with him because he’s an unbelievable professional and deserves all good things for future. It’s his last professional game and maybe he’s involved in the squad.”

Signed from Aston Villa in June 2011 after his contract at Villa Park ended, the Ohio native has made 67 appearances in all competitions for Spurs - with an impressive 50 of those coming in the Premier League.

Hugo Lloris is expected to start between the sticks on Merseyside with Spurs still fighting for fifth place and automatic qualification to the Europa League group stage.

Liverpool currently occupy fifth ahead of their trip to Stoke City but Spurs know they will leapfrog Brendan Rodgers’ men if they can better their result at the Britannia Stadium.

Currently a point and a place below the Reds, Spurs will miss out on the Europa League all together if Southampton - in seventh by a point - better Tottenham’s result.

Defensive pair Kyle Walker (foot) and Ben Davies (shoulder) both miss out on the trip to face the Toffees, whilst Emmanuel Adebayor has been granted compassionate leave for a second time this season in order to return to Togo.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez could hand Sylvain Distin a farewell appearance, the French centre-half is, however, battling illness to be involved.

Defender Antolin Alcaraz (fitness), Leighton Baines (ankle), Bryan Oviedo (metatarsal), Steven Pienaar (muscular), Darron Gibson (metatarsal) and Tony Hibbert (knee) are all sidelined.
