Envious Met Police boss Jimmy Cooper has admitted a goalscorer of the quality of Richard Jolly is well out of his league financially, writes Will Kelleher .

The former Sutton United and Carshalton Athletic striker scored the only goal as the Blues succumbed to a 1-0 Ryman Premier League opening day defeat to Wealdstone.

Cooper’s men, who drew with 0-0 at Bognor Regis Town on Tuesday night, have been impressive during pre-season – managing to find the net at will.

It has been a different story in the league as they have fired blanks so far, but the Imber Court chief insisted goalscoring would be no problem.

“If you give Richard Jolly an opportunity like that he will score,” he said.

“I think every non-league team would want a player like him, but they are difficult to come by.

“We would love to have him, but his wage demands would be far too high for us.

“We’ve got three very good forwards of our own and we’ll have Howard Newton back soon, so we’ll be fine.”

Met Police go to Lowestoft Town today.
