Crystal Palace fan Terence Ford gives his views on the Eagles' 1-0 win at Hull City on Saturday, their first away victory for 10 months.

To get up first thing on a Saturday morning to head to the widely regarded ‘Worst City in England’ may be considered by some as madness.

Perhaps only football fans can fully understand why one would even bother, especially when considering the following.

Twenty-three games, eighteen losses and 2070 minutes of playing time since the Red and Blue Army last won a weekend away game.

Still, there is nowhere else I would rather be.

We arrive in Hull just after midday and it’s off to the Weatherspoons to enjoy a Beer and a Burger, at prices equivalent to London circa 1974, as the rest of the pub revel in Arsenal’s continued demise. My interest in the games extends about as far as the players in my dream team.

Three pints later and we trek to the ground, sending us through the grim surroundings of the town and over the purpose built overpasses that lead into the stadium grounds. I like the KC Stadium. It’s distinctive and the accoustics are good, locking in the noise from the fans. CPFC2010 take note.

What ensues is a perfect defensive display from Palace, with Parr forcing Chester to put through his own net on fifteen minutes, a goal that Hull only once looked like cancelling out. Speroni and Ramage combined to stop the Tigers from scoring.

Tunchev and McCarthy are like Spartan Warriors at the back, repelling everything the Hull has to throw at them as Wright, Jedinak, Parr and Zaha work tirelessly in front of them. This team has desire and fight which was missing last season. It’s nice to see and has a lot to do with the results we have picked up so far.

This victory means that we have won three games in a row since we beat Derby, Southampton and Doncaster back in December 2008. Come on all, be honest. Who thought we would be taking nine points from the first 12 available? I certainly didn’t.

Freedman is well on his way to re-establishing us as number one in South London.
