Croydon Harriers' Martyn Rooney has set his sights on the 400m final in Beijing after taking a massive step towards this summer's Olympics by achieving the A qualifying standard.
The 400m runner ran a winning time of 45.46 seconds at Loughborough on Sunday to extend his lead at the top of the UK rankings and come in 0.09 seconds inside the qualifying time.
The result was all the more meritorious for as a student at the midlands athletics Mecca himself Rooney was well aware of the tracks slow reputation and had to contend with an unwelcome wind too.

With no rival in his class, the 21-year-old Croydon Harrier carved his own niche and strode confidently through the 200m mark at 21.6sec, and maintained form well to win by a comfortable margin.
The result does not guarantee Rooney a place in Beijing but means he is eligible to be selected by the British Olympic Association should he put in a good performance at the British trials on July 11, 12 and 13.
After the race Rooney said his good early season form had motivated him to try and reach the final in August.
