Old Cranleighans 6
Warlingham 20

Former England cricket captain Adam Hollioake proved his rugby credentials with a brace of tries as Warlingham rekindled their Surrey League One survival hopes with a spirited 20-6 victory at Old Cranleighans last Saturday.

Although the game was a tight affair, Warlingham performed better in the scrum and got to the breakdown quicker than their opponents.

But they conceded frequent penalties and if Cranleigh had a goal-kicker, the final score might have been very different.

Warlingham's head coach Nick Robinson said: "We've deserved some better results since before Christmas and this shows there is still a good chance we could avoid relegation."

In the early exchanges, OCs mounted some sustained attacks only to be thwarted by a resolute Warlingham defence.

Both sides exchanged penalty goals before, on the half-hour, Warlingham broke through the centre of the field.

Mark Griggs fed the ball to Hollioake who sprinted in from 30 yards. Mark Kozminski converted to add to his earlier penalty.

After the break, further penalties were exchanged. Warlingham looked as if they might dominate the play but again conceded too many penalties and Cranleighans came close to equalising on a couple of occasions.

But sound Warlingham defence again held firm.

In the dying minutes, while OCs mounted yet a final flurry, Hollioake intercepted a floating pass in midfield and ran 75 yards to secure Warlingham victory under the posts.

It was Warlingham's first league win since early November and sees them claw their way off the foot of the table for the first time this season.

Warlingham stage their annual golden oldies luncheon this Saturday before the first XV entertain fellow relegation strugglers Old Freemans.
