After his stunning victory new WBU light-middleweight champion Wayne Alexander immediately turned his thoughts to defending his title and chasing more world titles.

He said: "I want a busy year because at 31 my time is limited. I want to make a defence this year, then I want to fight Daniel Santos for the WBO title. I am ready for him now. I heard that Takaloo said he wants a rematch, but he'll have to regroup and earn a rematch."

Alexander had been scheduled to face Santos instead of Takaloo but pulled out. Now under the guidance of John Breen in Belfast, Alexander feels ready to take on the world's best. He said: "It's the best thing I have ever done, getting away, knuckling down and focusing.

"Before each fight from here on I will be going over to Belfast to work with John."

"Frank Warren is the best promoter in the world and hopefully now I can defend my title, move up to the world stage and make some money."

Breen told the Guardian: "With punching power like that you would put Wayne in with any light-middleweight in the world. He'll fight anybody."

Croydon's Duke McKenzie was one of few pundits to pick Alexander to knock out Takaloo. Now he is backing Wayne to step-up to world level.

McKenzie told the Guardian: "I have never seen such a clean one punch knock out on the domestic scene, it was fantastic. Let's hope Wayne can now challenge for a more recognised version of the world title. It is what he needs and deserves."
