Former Kingston Grammar School pupil Alexander Penney was on target again for Surbiton in their 2-2 MHL Premier Division home draw against Reading on Saturday.

The 25-year-old ex-Teddington youngster scored twice from penalty corners to add to the six set pieces he converted in last week’s EHB Cup win against Isca.

It took his goal tally to 13 in seven games for the division’s bottom club, and the City-based accountant revealed a simple secret to his success.

“It’s helpful to be back practising set pieces full-time with the team after missing quite a few training sessions so far this season because of revising for and taking my accountancy exams,” he said.

Surbiton travel to sixth-placed Hampstead & Westminster on Sunday.
