Moe Sbihi has warned his Olympic rivals the Team GB men’s four are only going to get better ahead of the 2016 Olympics.

Molesey Boat Club’s Sbihi helped the quartet – featuring clubmates Andrew Triggs Hodge and George Nash – complete an unbeaten season when they claimed world championship gold in Amsterdam on Saturday.

They clocked five minutes 40.24 seconds to finish three seconds ahead of closest rivals the USA to add world gold to their European triumph earlier in the year.

The blue riband crew have also won two World Cup regattas in a stellar season, but Sbihi reckons 2014 has been far from faultless.

“There is more to come from this crew”, said the 26-year-old former Hollyfield School student.

“We fell short of a couple of things this year and that’s not a negative, but a sign that we have been pushing the boundaries constantly in training this year.

“With Jurgen Grobler [Team GB head men’s coach] and his programme, we can only get stronger.”

The GB crew – all World men’s eight champions with Alex Gregory and Triggs Hodge reigning Olympic champions in the four – were quick out of the start and in the first 500m they created a three-quarter length lead.

But the US boat hit back and Gregory revealed it needed Sbihi’s calm head to ease them to a comprehensive win.

“We were all pretty nervous. We were unbeaten this season and we all knew we had to perform,” he added.

“The USA did exactly the same thing in the semi-final.

“For us, It was all about keeping cool and calm and then to pull away when we needed to. Moe [Sbihi] made the call at just the right time and we all responded and the boat just flew.”
