Oxshott cyclist Elliott Porter reckons he has a plan to win the Beaumont Trophy on Sunday.

The 23-year-old Team 3M rider will use the event as a warm-up to the National Road Race a week later, when he will test himself against the likes of Mark Cavendish, Geraint Thomas, Peter Kennaugh and Alex Dowsett.

The Beaumont Trophy course, one of the last eventrs in the UCI Continetnal season, is centred around the village of Stamfordham and is a combination of two circuits.

The larger circuit is 22.3 miles and includes the infamous climb of the Ryals, while the smaller circuit is 13.9 miles long.

The riders will start with one lap of the smaller circuit, before going on to complete four laps of the larger circuit and then finishing with a final lap of the small circuit  a total distance of 117 miles around the Northumberland countryside.

“I’ve had a good season so far and I’m looking forward to another chance to show myself in Team3M colours in the UK,” said Porter, who rode in the race last year.

“It’s a relatively flat circuit with a very steep climb on each lap. My aim is to be attentive early on and ride a strong race, so hopefully I can be in a position to get a good result by the end.”
