Epsom & Ewell’s triumph at the 19th annual P&G Surrey Youth Games last weekend has some dreaming of future Olympic success, writes Stuart Amos.
The borough’s boys and girls claimed four team golds in U15 mixed table-tennis, U13 mixed squash, U15 mixed lacrosse and U11 girls’ hockey, to go with silver medals in table-tennis, rugby, netball and football to scoop the overall crown.
Woking were second, while Elmbridge – winners in the U11 boys’ hockey and second in the U12 boys’ judo – were third.
More than 2,000 athletes from across Surrey descended on Surrey Sports Park to contest the title and organiser Campbell Livingston of Active Surrey reckoned there could be a future Olympian among them.
“Congratulations must go to the athletes of Epsom & Ewell for their success,” he said.
”We have clearly seen some potential Surrey-based Olympians compete this weekend and I can’t wait to see their stories unfold in the coming years.”
