by Ziad Chaudry Cheam-born Peter Manley missed out on a place at the lucrative partypoker.com Grand Slam of Darts after ending his European Darts Championships campaign in the semi-finals last Sunday at SudBahnhof Arena, Frankfurt, Germany.
The 46-year-old, who dispatched Kevin Painter, James Wade and Alan Tabern in the previous rounds, needed to reach the final in order to book his place in the £350,000 ITV-televised event but was overhauled in the semi-final by Stoke’s Adrian Lewis.
The 23-year-old killed off Manley’s gallant attempt by rattling in four unanswered legs for an 11-7 victory.
“I had the darts I didn’t use them,” said the former Cheam newsagent.
“I went in front once or twice, but struggled to hold my own throw.
“It wasn’t the best game but we were both playing for some massive rewards and the better man won.”
Despite not qualifying for the Grand Slam of Darts, Manley will still be participating at Wolverhampton Civic Hall alongside poker star Dave Ulliott in a Pro-Celebrity Challenge on November 14.
Tickets for the event, being televised by ITV4, are available by calling 0870 320 7000.
