Teenage swimmer Georgia Smith went to the Olympic trials last week and came back with a personal best.

The 15-year-old Epsom District Swimming Club member qualified for the 50m freestyle at the trials, which doubled up as the national championships, at the Olympic aquatics centre and swam a new best of 28:40 seconds last Friday.

It put Smith, who is now targeting a national time for the 100m freestyle, 65th out of 68 competitors with Fran Halsall again claiming the British title in 24:13.

Smith returned to her club to help them achieve 10 medals in the sprints leg of the Surrey Championships at Crystal Palace last weekend.

She claimed silver in the 50m freestyle, as did Diane Anstis in 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly.

The last events of the championships are held this weekend at Guildford Spectrum and Crystal Palace on Sunday.
