Lambeth retained their sailing title at the Thames Water London Youth Games Regatta on Saturday.
They triumphed in both the Access 2.3 and Feva mixed classes to claim gold again at the Royal Victoria Docks, beating rivals Tower Hamlets into second for the second year running It was the biggest ever London Youth Games Regatta, with 900 youngsters competing in sailing, rowing and kayaking events and Lambeth’s team manager Richard Sheridan was a proud man.
“It’s a massive achievement,” he said.
“We’ve had new kids get involved in the Access and we’re very proud to have won a new category.
“We’re going to try for a hat-trick, three years in a row, because that’s never been achieved before.”
Tom Mitchell, 16, was in the Lambeth Feva mixed boat that has now won gold for a third consecutive year.
“The London Youth Games is a good starting point and basis to move on to bigger things from now,” he said.
“I sail most weekends and I never want to stop – I want to keep at it, keep improving and get to a national level.”
Lambeth also finished 11th in the rowing and 23rd in the kayak slalom competitions.
The Youth Games finals take place at the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre at the end of the month.
