Lady Eleanor Holles Boat Club’s rowers were the stars of the show as they claimed not one, but two Varsity scalps at Kingston Regatta last Saturday.

The Hampton-based intermediate girls coxed four crew beat Cambridge in their first heat before beating Oxford in the final – having edged out hosts Kingston Boat Club in the semis.

The crew's coach Lucy Walczak, absent due to Molesey Boat Club commitments, was not there to see it, but assistant coach Andrew James could not hide his delight.

“It was a fantastic result for the girls,” he said.

“All of the girls were either national schools champions or national schools medallists this year and this is a the icing on the cake.

“It is a heck of an achievement. The Cambridge and Oxford girls are not all Blues but are part of the squad and are all much older.”

Sixty-three trophies were handed out across the weekend as more than 480 crews – featuring 1,290 rowers in 329 races – took part in the annual two day regatta. LEH went on to claim the Victor Ludorum prize for most successful club on Sunday, having seen Walton Rowing Club and Cambridge University Women’s Boat Club share the prize on the Saturday.

Twelve men’s crews and five women’s crews competed in the Diamond Jubilee Invitation Sprint Eights with Pembroke College winning the men’s final and Cambridge University Women’s BC beating Lady Eleanor Holles School in the women's race.
