One for the dog racing purists at Wimbledon

The third round of the Blue Square Derby was a racing purists' dream as the top class contenders all qualified for tonight's quarter-finals at Wimbledon.

The only upset saw crowd pleaser Love Tiger, who had clocked a fantastic time to win his second round heat, go out of the competition.

He missed the break from the traps and couldn't recover the ground he lost.

One dog that is hoping to get through to the final is Tyrur Kieran.

The recent winner of the Scottish Derby is currently on track to net his owners the first ever million pound greyhound racing jackpot by completing the Derby treble - the English, Irish and Scottish Derbys, a feat which has never been achieved before.

Dilemmas Flight is the only bitch to be left in the contest and she will be hoping to regain some of the form from two years ago when she won the Oaks competition.

Dilemmas Flight is trained by champion trainer Nick Savva and, with the shock exit of last year's champion Westmead Lord (also Savva trained), she has a lot to prove.

Six Dogs from across the pond in Ireland are still in the contest and all of them are receiving a lot of support both locally and from overseas.

Mark Donald, from Wimbledon Stadium, said: "The Irish always bring with them a lot of support, adding to the party atmosphere of the Derby."

The semi-finals of the competition take place on Saturday.
