A return to domestic action is the order of the day at Wimbledon stadium tonight with a combination of contact and non-contact racing.

The high-speed non-contact action is in the form of the 2l hot rods, who return for their third visit since the new year at Plough Lane.

At the last meeting they were competing for the London Championship, which was eventually won by Colin Moss who had travelled up to the capital from Southampton.

Tonight sees the first round of the 2014 Hoosier Racing Tire series, which this year starts and finishes at Wimbledon stadium.

Moss will be looking to keep his success going by aiming to take a hat trick of wins on the night, and to start off the series brightly.

Plenty of other top drivers will also want to gain an early advantage, and so classic side-by-side racing is guaranteed.

The bangers have simply been awesome since the beginning of the year, with an abundance of cars on track for every race.

With such healthy numbers, contact and taking out the opposition has been the only way to find success.

Mitcham’s Bandits team led by Keith Conlon, are still involved in an on-track feud which has added some further spice to proceedings.

The meeting on Sunday is round 13 of the Refine Metals Banger League and as with previous weeks, the fight for the title continues to be incredibly close.

The 2l stock cars return to Wimbledon after the photo finish three weeks ago which determined the London Championship. For once, Morden’s Jimmy Morris was a little off the pace.

Instead the title was taken by Karl Totham from Essex, who only just managed to edge out rising star Brandon Osborne on the line.

After a review of the action, Totham beat the youngster from Brighton by a whisker to secure the championship.

It was a fitting way to finish an amazing final race for the 2l stock car boys, who were great entertainment all evening.

Completing the contact formulas are the historic stock cars - an upturn in the numbers of drivers racing the cars this year is evidence that the formula is returning to its glory days.

After his win in the World Champions Challenge last week, where he beat five other current and former world champions, 1987 World Banger champion and now historic stock car driver, Roger Wilkinson will be difficult to beat.

The first race begins at 5.30pm.
