New Malden's Tom Onslow-Cole says the fact there remains issues with his Team Aon Ford Focus is a sign things can only get better.
The 24-year-old secured two top ten finishes as the British Touring Car Championship returned from its mid-season break at Snetterton on Sunday.
Onslow-Cole has signed up with Team Aon until the end of the campaign but is well out of the driver's championship race, which is currently led by Mat Jackson.
The former Brooklands College spent Monday debriefing with the team and he believes the fact there is room for improvement, mechanically, can only be a good thing.
"I think we will get there. It is not as if we are coming back from races saying there is nothing more we can do," he said.
"There are complaints with the car from a mechanical point of view. We think we have identified the problems and iff they can be address we are only going to get faster.
"This is only the sixth race weekend the car has had and only my second. We are making progress."
Onslow-Cole bagged two eighth placed finishes and twice finished ahead of team-mate Tom Chilton on a track he had never raced on before.
And, while results weren't what he had hoped, he conceded it had been a solid weekend.
"I don't think we got the results we should have done but it is clear things are moving forward for us," he added.
"Everything didn't quite go our way but it was a solid performance after a seven-week break."
