New Malden race ace Tom Onslow-Cole had mixed fortunes on his Superstars International Series debut at Donington Park over the weekend.

The 25-year-old British Touring Car Championship star qualified his Team Ferlito Jaguar XF/R5.0 in impressive fashion to take third place on the grid on Saturday.

But Onslow-Cole could not replicate that pace on race day as he was forced to retire in both races on Sunday.

Onslow-Cole returns to British Touring Car action with Team eBay Motors at Oulton Park on June 9.

Pundits had predicted he would be the team’s leading driver this term, but he languishes behind team-mate Rob Collard.

But Onslow-Cole predicted that would soon change.

“I’m actually not too worried,” he said.

“Sure, it’s frustrating I’ve not continued the results I started the season with at Brands Hatch, but feel it’s probably down to some bad circumstances.

“I’ve analysed the bits that haven’t worked and feel at home with the car – results are going to come.

“It’s a very healthy rivalry with Rob and it’ll make us go even quicker.”
