Three-time Olympic champion Jason Kenny successfully advanced at the first time of asking in the men's keirin at the Track World Cup in Glasgow.

Riding in the event which begins behind a motor-paced Derny and which Sir Chris Hoy has dominated in recent years, with Olympic titles in Beijing and London, and in a venue named after the Scot, Kenny claimed a supreme win in his heat.

One rider advanced to the second round and the remainder fell into the repechage. The 24-year-old from Bolton left nothing to chance, going from the front to win by a bike length.

World and Olympic champion Laura Trott was fourth after the opening event of the women's omnium, the flying lap.

The 20-year-old, who won team pursuit gold on day one, clocked 14.557 seconds as Australia's Ashlee Ankudinoff set the pace in 14.340secs.

Germany's Kristina Vogel, Olympic team sprint champion, was fastest in qualifying for the women's sprint, clocking 11.100.

Becky James (11.166) and Jess Varnish (11.186), who combined to claim team sprint gold, advanced in second and third place for the first round.

James eased to a comfortable win over China's Li Xuemei, while Varnish hesitated before turning on the gas to beat Anastasiya Voynova of Russia.

Andy Tennant, recovered from the crash which ended Britain's team pursuit hopes on day one, was fifth in individual pursuit qualifying in 4mins 28.806secs.

Denmark's Lasse Hansen advanced fastest in 4:22.373 to set up a final meeting with Martyn Irvine of Ireland, who finished in 4:24.243.
