Kingstonian assistant manager Mark Hams admitted the team is ready to fight for a play-off spot rather than head meekly into the summer.

Ks are eight points off fifth place with eight games remaining, and manager Alan Dowson has already turned his attention to preparing for next year’s Ryman Premier League campaign.

However, back-to-back 1-0 wins over Hampton & Richmond Borough on Saturday and Met Police on Tuesday night, and two new signings, have regalvanised Ks’ push.

Dowson has brought in versatile midfielder Reece Hall, from Tooting & Mitcham, while Polish right-back Szymon Sidorowicz has joined on a recommendation from AFC Wimbledon.

Hams acknowledged that the play-offs are a distant hope, but he and Dowson want to finish the season with a team wanting to play.

“It was nice to get the results over Easter. It was one of those where we looked like we wanted it more than the opposition, which has not been the case for some time,” he said.

“That’s what we want to see between now and the end of the season. “We want players who want to pull on the red and white of Kingstonian and fight to the end. If we fail to reach the play-offs, then it won’t be for the lack of trying.”

Going out the Kingsmeadow door are Dean Lodge, to Dulwich Hamlet, and Nathan Koranteng, to St Neots Town.

Hams said: “I wish them the best, I am sure wherever they go they will be successful.”

On the new arrivals, Hams said: “I know Reece from when the Ks academy played the Tooting academy.

“He’s a versatile player who can drop back and defend, but who we’re encouraging to get forward as well.

“Szymon is a full-back who likes to get forward. He was on the scouting books at AFC Wimbledon, and they’ve convinced us he’s good enough to be a league player.

“So if he is good enough to be a league player, he should do well at our level.”

Ks host Whitehawk this weekend, followed by the visit of Hastings United on Monday.
