Leatherhead were unable to break down a well organised Peacehaven & Telscombe side in Saturday’s Ryman Division One South goalless draw at Fetcham Grove.

Tanners boss Richard Brady made one change to his starting line up with new signing Mohamed Eisa coming in for the unavailable Kev Terry.

Peacehaven won the Sussex County League last season and the league newcomers showed no sign of difficulty in competing at a higher level.

The visitors attacked with purpose in the opening exchanges with Jamie Brotherton forcing a good save from Deren Ibrahim after five minutes.

Jake Hobbs looked lively for Leatherhead, sending a free kick just wide of the post and Eisa found space to cut in from the left, but the young midfielder hurried his shot and fired over from the edge of the box.

Tom Lawley broke clear down the right for Peacehaven after 34 minutes, shooting just wide of the post as Ibrahim came out to narrow the angle.

Leatherhead’s best move of the half came five minutes before the break as Allan Tait fed the ball through to Tom Bradbrook.

The tall striker shot on the turn to force a smart save from goalkeeper Antony Di Bernardo.

The visitors almost grabbed a goal on the stroke of half time but Ibrahim reacted quickly to Lawley’s close range effort, turning the ball behind for a corner.

Leatherhead attacked with more purpose in the second half.

Bradbrook snatched up a poor clearance after 54 minutes, lobbed the keeper from 30 yards out, only to see the ball come back off the bar before being cleared.

Tanners missed a couple of chances to take the lead in the following minutes - Di Bernado did well to turn Hobbs’ curling effort behind for a corner, and Jamie Coyle met the flag kick with a well-directed nod across goal but Tom Parkinson was unable to control the ball, heading over from close range.

Neither side could break the deadlock in the closing stages with the match ending goalless.
