Carshalton Athletic owner Paul Dipre praised everyone associated with the club after picking up the silver medal in the 2013 UEFA best grassroots club in Europe competition.

Dipre collected the honour last month on the same night that England hosted Scotland at Wembley as part of the Football Association's 150-year anniversary celebrations.

Last year, the Robins were named FA national community club of the year, the Surrey FA community club of the year and the south-east regional community club of the year.

It was as a result of winning the national prize that the Robins were nominated for the European prize.

Dipre said: "Its a great testament to the best club volunteers, staff and fans a club could ever wish for.

"So many have played a part in our development over the past five years and I am so pleased that their work has been recognised at a European level. It is awesome."

They were beaten into second place by a quartet of Dutch clubs - SV Wilp, SC Klarenbeek, SC Cupa and VV Voorst - who adopted a multi-club approach, putting aside local rivalries to ensure the provision of football for women and girls in their home region, and providing a best practice example for the rest of the country.
