Kingston footballer Max Kretzschmar’s parents may not have been there to see his match-winning turn for Wycombe Wanderers at the weekend – but at least his school pals were on hand to fill the void.

The 20-year-old former Hampton School student  has scored three goals in League Two for the Chairboys this season in his second year as a professional at Adams Park.

Kingston-born Kretzschmar, pictured below, scored both goals in a 2-1 win at Hartlepool United in September and was again the hero on Saturday as  he came off the bench to fire home the winner in a 1-0 triumph at Bristol Rovers on Saturday.

But neither mum Shirley or dad Andrew were there to see his goals in person with the couple at a wedding and in France on respective occasions.

And, having celebrated his goal with friends in the crowd at the Memorial stadium, he admitted their absence might just be a lucky omen.

“My parents were away on holiday again, as they were when we played Hartlepool,” said the youngster.

“They could not make it so at least some friends at Bristol Uni were able to come out in force.

“I might make them go on holiday all the time because it seems to be working.”

Esher-based Kretzschmar joined the Wanderers’ academy as a 14-year-old and has made 13 appearances for the club since making his senior debut as a substitute at Morecambe in August.
