Leatherhead boss Richard Brady has been cast in a new, more restrictive role, but one that will not prevent him from patrolling the touchline.

Two weeks ago, Brady hurt his calf while playing football, and only this week the diagnosis of a torn Achilles means he will be in a cast for at least six weeks.

However, rather than change from coach to couch, Brady insists nothing will keep him away from the Tanners push for promotion from Ryman Division One South.

However, after Tuesday’s diabolical 0-0 draw at Burgess Hill Town, he may be wishing differently.

“The best thing that happened on Tuesday night was when the whistle went for full time,” Brady said.

“It was a truly awful game, on a horrendous pitch.

“The players had trouble keeping their balance because it was so slippy.

“There were not too many chances on goal, but Burgess were the better team.

“But we’ve got seven points from the past three league games, so I’ll take that.”

Goalkeeper Deren Ibrahim missed the trip due to work commitments, but should be back for this weekend’s jaunt to Three Bridges.

Last weekend’s 1-0 win over Merstham came courtesy of Ian Draycott’s second league goal of the season.

It leaves the Tanners fourth in the table, with games in hand on most of those around them.

Despite his predicament, Brady insists he will not be missing from the dug-out, although he admitted that the academy he runs at the club will have to rely on his fellow coaches stepping up.

He said: “I’ve not had a cast since I was young, and it is not enjoyable.

“But it won’t keep me away from games, it would take a lot more to do that.

“I’m in it for six weeks, which will take me up to Christmas, but rather than get annoyed about it, I am the kind of person who accepts it and deals with it.”
