Spot-kick hero Matt York reckons his Tooting & Mitcham teammates will need no firing up for their FA Cup First Round clash at Stockport County next weekend - the League One side have already done that for them.

York dispatched two penalties in extra-time as the Ryman Premier battlers earned a famous 4-3 replay triumph at Blue Square Premier Eastbourne Borough on Tuesday night to book their first round spot for the first time since 1977.

And York revealed the Terrors are more than up for the challenge.

He said: “As soon as the draw was made we looked at Stockport’s website and they had us down as Tootingham.

“It doesn’t say much for respect when they cannot even spell your name properly.

“But we will treat it as just another game in terms of the way we play.

“Yes it is a massive deal for us but if we go there and play the way we have recently then we are more than capable of an upset.”

The postman, who has been working this week despite the national strikes, added to normal time goals from Paul Vines and Allan McLeod as Billy Smith’s men twice came from behind.

And the central defender admitted there was a real desire to put right Saturday’s nightmare, where Tooting conceded two injury-time goals in the 3-3 draw.

York added: “The boys are absolutely ecstatic.

“We felt it was justice after Saturday and we really owed it both to oursleves and the fans to win that game.

“For the majority of us we have never played in the first round of the FA Cup and it means everything to us.

“Some of the players are getting on a bit and we will not get that many more chances so to make it this year is brilliant.”
