Midfielder Karl Beckford reckons he didn’t get a decent crack of the whip at Kingstonian after quitting the club last week over a lack of starting opportunities.

The 24-year-old, who made a total of 14 appearances for the club after arriving , scored three goals in five starts for boss Alan Dowson’s men.

The former AFC Wimbledon star, who was joined in heading for the exit door on Friday by Des Boateng, has already attracted offers from Dulwich Hamlet and Cambridge City, but he insists he is going to take his time deciding his next move.

“It was a mutual decision. I wasn’t playing as much as I would have liked and feel I should have been given more opportunities. My record when I start speaks for itself I think,” he said.

“That is no disrespect to Alan. I love him to bits and would do anything for him, but I wasn’t happy going to a game on Saturday and not playing.

“Kingstonian’s style didn’t really suit me, but that is not to say they don’t play the right way. I feel like I have contributed and they have been successful.

“I don’t really want to be the sort of player that has been here, there and everywhere. I want to pick the right club for me and see what happens.”

Ks celebrated securing on-loan midfielder Mo Harkin on a permanent deal from Farnborough Town with a 3-0 Ryman League Premier Division triumph over Hendon on Sunday.

A Bobby Traynor brace - which took his season’s tally to 20 goals - and Carl Wilson-Denis’ 53rd minute opener was enough to avenge their side’s 2-1 FA Cup defeat to the same opponents.

It was a win achieved with the likes of Dean Lodge and Lewis Cook starting on the bench, but Dowson was quick to play down the strength of his squad - despite acknowledging his current starting line-up was short of a few stars.

“We’ve got a couple of knocks so we are not quite up to full-strength. Although results show otherwise,” he added.

“I look at some of the players on the bench and wonder how I’m going to fit them in.

“The match day 16 is all I’ve got at the moment though in terms of depth. That says to me we are more likely to finish mid-table than in the top five, but we will see.

“If we can finish in the top 12 we’ll have been the most successful team since Geoff Chapple was in charge and that is what we are aiming for.”
