Kingstonian boss Alan Dowson says he has had no contact with Blue Square South Woking before or after the Cards sacked Graham Baker and assistant Jimmy Dack.

Backer and Dack were relieved of their duties on Monday - having declared their reluctance to continue in their roles - and the Kingfield club announced they were hunting a new manager on Wednesday.

Dowson, who has won promotion to the Ryman Premier League with both Ks and previous club Walton & Hersham in his career, is rumoured to be among the favourites to take charge.

And the fact assistant Martin Tyler was in the crowd for Woking’s 3-2 FA Trophy win at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday only served to fuel the speculation.

However, the Sky Sports commentator was researching for a question and answer event he is hosting with Geoff Chapple and Tim Buzaglo later this month.

And Dowson, who is under contract at Kingsmeadow, says all he is concerned with is preparing his Ks side for the weekend.

“I have not put myself forward for the job and they haven’t contacted me. They would have to go through the proper channels to do that,” said Dowson.

"I've heard nothing. I'm just doing my job and trying to do the best I can for Kingstonian.

"I'm hoping to bring in a new player before the weekend and I'm just waiting on confirmation of that.

"I was at Croydon Athletic last night watching them and I'm concentrating on preparing my team properly for two massive games against Cray Wanderers and Maidstone.

"That is all I'm bothered about."

Speculation about Dowson's future has been rife since Baker and Dack were suspended on Monday night, with many in non-League circles tipping the ambitious Geordie to switch allegiances.

But the manager had refused to comment until his close pal's departure was confirmed.

“It is not very fair on Graham and I'll not say a thing when there isn't even a job available," he said on Monday.

“If anyone wants to speculate then that is up to them. I love my job here and want to stay.”
