Kingstonian winger Jack MacLeod hopes his move to Kingsmeadow can fire him back in to the Football League.

The 23-year-old former Millwall trainee is one of boss Alan Dowson’s seven summer signings aiming to land a Ryman Premier League play-off spot this term.

MacLeod, who made his name at Carshalton Athletic, was a near ever-present for Division One South play-off winners Leatherhead last season having spent a year in the footballing wilderness after his release from Hereford United in 2009.

MacLeod says he is stronger than ever and believes another successful season could be his ticket back to the big time.

“I enjoyed my time at Leatherhead, but I felt I needed to push myself to get back to where I want to be,” he says.

“Up until last season I've only ever known pro football and that is where I want to get back to.

“The way Alan spoke to me in the summer and the players he has brought in, convinced me Ks will be pushing for promotion.

“All I’m doing now is concentrating on cementing my place in the team and, hopefully the rest will look after itself.”

MacLeod left Hereford after two seasons at Edgar Street and played in Ireland and Sweden before securing a return to the UK at Fetcham Grove.

He helped the Tanners lift the League Cup in 2010 before playing a large hand in their play-off triumph 12 months later.

“When I signed for Hereford I thought I’d just go straight into the team, but the manager didn’t play me,” he adds.

“I made my debut the following year against Scunthorpe and ended up making nine appearances, which wasn’t enough really.

“Maybe I should have worked harder, but my head wasn’t in the right place when I left. I didn’t expect to have to go on trial or drop down the leagues.

“I’m excited about the season starting. I played a lot last year and had success. I need another season like that.”
