Kingstonian boss Alan Dowson reckons a good start to the campaign hangs on three of his stars winning their battle for fitness.

Tom Bird (stomach strain), Paul Olima (ankle) and Bash Alimi (achilles) are fighting to be fit for Saturday’s Ryman Premier League opener at Aveley.

All three missed the weekend’s 0-0 draw at Godalming Town, and Dowson – who confirmed the signing of winger Michael Gordon at the weekend – says keeping his first choice players fit will be the key to a good start and season.

“If I can get and keep players fit this year, I’ve got a good side that can give it a good go this year,” he said.

“Everyone is motivated and I am too. We’re just excited to be finally starting.”
