Hampton & Richmond Borough boss Mark Harper will not panic as he bids to secure his side’s first points of the Blue Square South campaign.

Late goals accounted for the Beavers in 2-1 defeats to Bromley and title-favourites Woking leaving them pointless after the opening week of the season.

Harper brought in three new players – in the form of midfielder Aaron Morgan, winger Gary Frewen and striker Jacob Erskine – on the eve of Saturday's reverse.

The Beveree boss brought in newboy Ricky Machel and Darren Ellams to shore up his defence and watched his men come close to holding the Cards on Tuesday night.

And Harper, who takes his team to big-spending Dartford on Saturday, insists he will keep the faith in the belief the points will come sooner rather than later.

“There was not one person on Tuesday that looked out of place and I'm not dissatisfied in any way,” he says.

“I’m not going to stop the players from doing what they are doing. I’m still going to encourage them to play the right way in the proper areas.

“I’m not panicking at all. The points will come and when they do I’m sure we will kick on.

“It is my job to keep the spirits up until the results start coming.”

Charlie Moone looked to have earned a point for his side at the Beveree on Saturday only for the visitors to steal things in the closing minutes.

And former Gillingham striker Erskine, signed from Bromley at the weekend, scored on his debut at Kingfield, but a Woking penalty in the closing stages cost Harper’s men.

Harper registered Joe Kelly, Rodney Chiweshe, Machel, James Walters, Tom Hickey and Stuart Duff to the first team squad last week, but it was the impression new boy Erskine made that left the manager purring.

“Once he’s got his fitness sorted I think he could score the goals that will save us this season,” added.
