Midfielder Tom Davis' controversial switch from Sutton United to Carshalton Athletic was rubberstamped today, with Robins boss Paul Dipre claiming he has moved to Colston Avenue to win trophies.

Davis, who lifted the Ryman Premier League title with Sutton last season, quit Gander Green Lane after Saturday's 5-0 defeat to Woking.

He announced his exit on social media website Twitter and left United boss Paul Doswell in the lurch one game in to the start of the Blue Square South season.

Dipre has hit back at claims Athletic are the big spenders of the Ryman Premier League this season, and insists Davis' move was purely for footballing reasons.

"I tried to sign him at the end of last season and couldn't afford him - he was too expensive," he said.

"The rumour mill seems to say I have money coming out of my ears, but the budget of what I pay players is probably lower than what they are getting at other places.

"They are promised a good club and good coaching, a good season and a chance to win promotion.

"Tom Davis wants to win everything. He's obviously had a fall out with Sutton and his expectations were far more reasonable."
