Kingstonian boss Alan Dowson has begged fans to give him more time and insists he will not quit Kingsmeadow this season.

Ks slumped to a fourth straight defeat on Saturday as they were dumped out of the FA Cup in the first qualifying round at Poole Town.

Dowson’s men lost 3-0 to take their goals conceded tally to 13 in four games and leave some questioning whether the manager had lost the support of the dressing room.

Leatherhead’s Mick Sullivan paid the price for his men being rock bottom of the Ryman Premier League – three points and one place below Ks – when he got the boot on Tuesday.

Dowson, with only one win this season, is only too aware he could be next and has issued a statement on the club’s website asking fans for their continued backing.

The vultures will be gathering around his job unless he turns things around soon, but he insists he is can lead Kingstonian up the table.

“I’ve been a pretty successful manager over the past six years and I’m just having an awful time of it,” he says.

“I won’t walk away from this job. It might not be a quick fix – although I hope it is – we just need time.

“Other managers will come to games and put their name in the frame. I know how it is and I expect some to be at the ground on Saturday.

“When you are losing games it does look like players aren’t playing for you, but we could win on Saturday and everything will be different.”

It doesn’t get any easier for Kingstonian with visits from league-leaders Hendon and promotion-favourites Lewes this Saturday and Monday.

Dowson continues to be frustrated in the transfer market, but will not shuffle his pack unless there is sufficient quality available, but former Harrow Borough playmaker Dewayne Clarke says the solution may be closer to home.

“People are given a job to do. Training is good, but then we go out and it just doesn’t happen,” he adds.

“We’re not a bad set of players, there are signs of us turning it around. There are better players here than at Harrow. But there we did our jobs, and then we let the [creative] players play.”
