Carshalton Athletic have announced Frank Thompson as their new chairman - replacing Alan Walker who resigned earlier this month.

Thompson, in his third season with the club as a director and general secretary, is a football administrator who has experience working across football, from grass roots to the professional game, for the past 30 years.

“I am enormously proud to be appointed chairman of this prestigious club," he said.

"I relish the challenge to continue the work of Alan Walker and Harry Driver in moving the club forward on all fronts."

Thompson believes the club can now realistically develop and work towards a return to the proud traditions of its long past.

He has called for both the club’s volunteers and the supporters to put aside historical disagreements and work with him and the board to restore "this sleeping giant of a club back to the glory days of former years at the War Memorial Ground."

"The highs and lows Carshalton Athletic has faced over the past 20 years are well documented," he added.

"However, in past three years, the club has undergone a fantastic revitalisation programme.

"Maybe some mistakes were made in that process, but few could deny the transformation has not been a success."

“The stadium has been dramatically improved and the commercial side has continued to grow and has started to have a huge financial impact.

"The regeneration of our youth set up into one of the largest in South England, and the community links through our Soccer School and community groups, has all contributed to the club now having a firm base to grow from and develop even further."
