Kingstonian boss Alan Dowson has thanked pal Paul Doswell for talking him through the most difficult spell of his managerial career.

The Kingsmeadow chief went from zero to hero at the weekend as his side secured back-to-back 1-0 wins against Hendon and Lewes on Saturday and Monday.

On both occasions star striker Bobby Traynor – nicknamed ‘Son of Dowse’ – netted the winner, first from the penalty spot and then with a close range header.

Sutton United manager Doswell has lent his Ks counterpart the services of both defender Neil Jenkins – signed earlier this month – and midfielder Romone McCrae, who pitched up at Ks on Saturday.

But Dowson, who also picked up Boreham Wood striker Ali Chaaban on Friday, has revealed Doswell has sent more than just re-enforcements his way.

“The players who have come in have made a huge difference for us. Romone was magnificent tonight,” he said on Monday.

“I have to say a massive thank you to Paul Doswell not just for the players, but for all the advice he has given me.

“I’ve got a lot of contacts in the game who often just play lip service to you when you ask for help, but he actually does what he says.

“Hopefully, this will get us off the front pages now, but we have to move forward.”

Ks played for nearly 20 minutes with 10-men on Monday after Tommy Hutchinson’s sending-off for a second yellow card.

The defence withstood a late barrarge to secure a second successive cleansheet, making light of the defensive woes that have blighted Kingstonian’s season so far.

Jenkins and McCrae arrived on initial one month deals and Dowson admitted he has work to do to plug the gaps should they return to Gander Green Lane.

“We realise they are only here on loan, but I have some irons in the fire,” he added.

“We played 20 minutes with one man short, so it seems we’ve sorted our defensive problems, but we have to build on it.”

McCrae, whose blocked shot was headed in by Traynor for Monday’s winner, added: “We didn’t deserve to go down to 10-men, but we gave it our all.

“We are all buzzing to get the two wins. We’ve got a good team and hopefully we can kick on from here.”

Kingstonian, already out of the FA Cup, travel to Concord Rangers on Tuesday.
